Hide & Seek is now available as Pay-What-You-Want PDF!
It's been so long since I've released any FINISHED gaming material that I swear I've been trying to make this game's release harder than it actually had to be. Anyway, it's here!
Hide & Seek is a Lasers & Feelings hack designed to emulate the disturbing schoolyard atmosphere of John Bellairs novels and Alvin Shwartz's Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series, with a little bit of Junji Ito thrown in for the grown ups. It's a very deliberate nod to one of my favorite RPGs of all time, Pearce Shea's incomparable Monster Parts, an RPG originally written in a blog post, but with some decidedly Lasers & Feelings mechanics as well as my own input on how to make the most out of that kind of game. To support free-form play, I've include 13 secrets, jumping-off points to get your Hide & Seek game off to a great start.
This release of Hide & Seek features two files: the first is the 2-page letter-sized full-color disparately-hyphenated masterpiece of layout that one expects from Jack of DNGN CLUB. The second is a text-only version formatted for booklet-style printing as well as ease of copying/pasting and such.
A huge goal of mine (and Jack's!) was to get this game out the door before Halloween and here we are! Exactly one day before! Here's hoping you find some room in your spooky season gaming to give Hide & Seek a shot.
