Pre-TL;DR: I made some physical copies of Hide & Seek and they're available here while supplies last: https://noapostrophe.gumroad.com/l/hidenseek-ucon2024-ashcan
Story time:
I've said before that I initially envisioned Hide & Seek as a one-page RPG and I really did mean that. But, after seeing Jack from DNGN CLUB's amazing work, on the one-page version, I think something deep down got set loose, was unleashed. I took the text of the game and reformatted it into an 8-page text-only zine. You've probably already downloaded those. I thought about eventually printing a brochure-style version of the rules and maybe a collection of various secrets down the road.
But it was all going to be down the road.
Enter Beckett Warren. Beckett is a seriously good guy who I've known for nearly a decade. Pre-COVID, Beckett owned the coolest little comics & games shop in Cleveland, OH, Weird Realms. COVID and some personal stuff put an end to the Weird Realms era, but Beckett is now the dude in charge of purchasing for Exalted Funeral, but Beckett still does some cons as Weird Realms, trading in a lot of the strangeness he picks up on just being in the right place at the right time.
So last week Tuesday, Beckett hit me up and asked if I was going to U Con (I was) and if I had anything to sell there (I did not). If I did have something to sell, he went on, here are the terms. I spent about 4-6 hours on Wednesday of last week taking that text-only version and laying it out into an ashcan zine. I spaced out the rules more, gave each secret its own page, and spent the day collaging together public domain pictures and some art that I'd acquired here on Itch.io.
The result: a U Con 2024 exclusive ashcan version of Hide & Seek! Only 25 were printed, all home-printed, hand-assembled and hand-numbered. You can get the through the link above or below for just $15 postage paid (within the US only), but they will likely sell out swiftly. This particular version of the rules will not be in-print again, but I plan on making the pdf available. The next time Hide & Seek is in-print, it will be with an additional 4-8 pages of new content, some of which I've already started showing off.
